RIP Avalanna! Justin Bieber Mourns Cancer Death of Six-Year-Old 'Wife'

Teen idol Justin Bieber on Wednesday mourned the death of a six-year-old cancer patient who snagged his heart after she became his make-believe wife.

“One of the greatest spirits I have ever known is gone… RIP Avalanna. I love you,” said Bieber on his Twitter account after the family of Avalanna Routh announced her passing on the microblogging site.

Routh, a native of Merrimac, Massachusetts, was nine months old when she was diagnosed with atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor, or AT/RT, a rare brain disorder that usually kills its victims within a year.

Doctors at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, using a multi-prong therapy regimen that in some cases has overcome the tumor, succeeded in prolonging the child’s life.

In August 2011, the hospital staged a pretend wedding at which Routh, a passionate Bieber fan, became “Mrs Bieber.” Six months later, after a Facebook campaign, Bieber invited her to New York to spend Valentine’s Day with him.

She said afterwards how she and her “husband” ate cupcakes and played Candy Land, a children’s board game, leaving her parents with the more grown-up task of raising public awareness of her disease.

Only about 30 new cases of AT/RT are diagnosed in the United States every year. Patients have a survival rate of just 10 percent.

Katy Perry named Billboard's Woman of the Year

Pop star Kate Perry was named Billboard's Woman of the Year on Tuesday, after a whirlwind 12 months in which she split up with her husband and turned their break-up into a hit single and film.

Perry, channeled her split with British comedian Russell Brand in late 2012 into the chart-topping hit "Part Of Me" and a 3D behind-the-scenes film entitled "Katy Perry: Part Of Me" that documented her personal and professional ups and downs.

The singer has won over a legion of fans known as 'katycats' on Twitter and Facebook with her quirky costumes and catchy bubblegum pop songs.

She has sold 48 million tracks in the U.S. alone according to Billboard, including the hits "Firework," "California Gurls," "E.T." and "Hot N Cold" from her major-label 2008 debut "One Of The Boys" and 2010 album "Teenage Dream."

Perry has also become a branding machine, lending her name to her own fragrance, nail polish and false eyelash lines as well as being the face of skin care line Proactiv and Popchips snacks.

Billboard's editorial director Bill Werde said in a statement that Perry was chosen for her achievements in the past 12 months, calling her "one of the most exciting and inspiring artists in the industry."

"Katy Perry broke into the industry not even five years ago, and has already accomplished more than most artists can hope for in an entire career," Werde said.

The Billboard Woman of the Year award selects a female artist with trailblazing achievements. Previous recipients include Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie.

Perry will receive the award at the 2012 Billboard Women in Music event in New York on November 30.

New Music: Slim joe Feat. Iyanya – Omoge

Oti Yan Yan” + “Kukere” + Young D = “Omoge”. That’s the equation for this jam right here. The makers of both hit singles, Slim Joe and Iyanya, team up for something that could easily become another street smash to their name. The title “Omoge” and the sound itself might be cliche, but that’s what gets the market going.  The song was produced by Young D

Akon Stars In Season Finale Of MTV Meets

MTV Base and MTN are to round off a fascinating second season of youth empowerment series MTV Base Meets with MTN by screening a gripping interview with Senegalese-American recording artist and business mogul, Akon.

MTV Base Meets Akon with MTN will premiere on terrestrial TV stations across Africa including:TV2 (Cameroon), Wednesday 26 September at 21:00; Swazi TV (Swaziland), Thursday 27 September at 18:30; Rwanda TV (Rwanda), Thursday 27 September at 17:30; Viasat(Ghana), Thursday 27 September at 21:00; NTV (Uganda), Friday 28 September at 18:00; Muvi TV (Zambia), Friday 28 September at 17:00; STV (Nigeria), Sunday 30 September at 17:00.

Akon met with MTV VJ Vanessa Mdee and five passionate young Africans from all over the continent on Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles, California in September 2012. Among those lining up to meet with Akon were Zambian computer science student Catherine Nkonjera (20), Rwandan commerce student Marc Gwamaka (24), 20 year old computer science student Xolani Kunene from Swaziland, Ugandan economics student and music promoter Kenneth Tamali (22) and South African designer AnnahMabasa (26).

Among the topics discussed by Akon and the group are fame, ambition, education, how to find and develop your talent, cultural cross-over and the importance of fighting for what you believe in. Akon also talked about the importance of developing his art, the joy of collaborating with other artists such as Michael Jackson and The Fugees, his role in developing the careers of T-Pain and Lady Gaga and his latest reinvention – as a movie actor.
Like many of the previous panellists in the series, the youth involved in the interview were inspired by their meeting with Akon.

Comments Mark Gwamaka, “The great become great because they keep on learning all the time.”

“He has taught me to put the past behind me and focus and progress,” says AnnahMabasa.
Adds Catherine Nkonjera, “I love the fact that he talked about finding your talent ‘cause even if it’s uncool you just have to do it.”

Akon is one of seven high profile ‘influencers’ to have featured in Season 2 of the youth empowerment series, including South African politician WinnieMadikizela-Mandela, Hip-Hop pioneer and entrepreneur, Russell Simmons, South Sudanese supermodel AlekWek, His Excellency Chief OlusegunObasanjo, former President of Nigeria, Togolese international soccer star Emmanuel Adebayor and Hollywood actor Idris Elba.

First initiated in 2011, MTV Base Meets…with MTN connects African youth with the thought leaders, opinion formers, decision makers and role models who shape their world. Season 2 of MTV Base Meets…with MTN airs across Africa on MTV Base (DSTV Channel 322) and on terrestrial stations across the continent, including STV (Nigeria), Spectrum TV (Cameroon), Viasat (Ghana), Rwanda TV (Rwanda), Swazi TV (Swaziland), Muvi TV (Zambia) and NTV (Uganda).

In each episode of MTV Base Meets…with MTN, ambitious young Africans from all walks of life pose hard questions to high-profile “thought leaders” about issues close to their hearts – in an intimate and informal environment, with no questions off-limits. Topics on the agenda include entrepreneurship, education, youth culture, politics, sport, racism, gender issues and the African Renaissance. To date, youth panellists asking the questions have included students, journalists, bloggers, models, comedians, actors, musicians, humanitarian campaigners and poets.

Domestic Violence; Frank Edoho & Zaki Adzay Abused Ex-wives Speak Out

In Support of Peace One Day's Global Truce 2012 'Reducing Domestic Violence' and Peace One Day's Global Truce 2012, a campaign which encouraged Molestation victims to speak out; and the Peace Prayer Outreach in Kwara State which enriched the lives of those in need and advocated for understanding between religions.

These efforts all served to promote peace, non-violence and solidarity within Nigeria and more importantly advanced the vision of Peace One Day.

Obiang who was once married to the 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' host, Frank Edoho said, "Just to dare to argue with your husband is like a challenge in your home. The woman is challenging the man and tempers flay and then you snap, then there is a slap. He says 'I am sorry it is a mistake' then says 'sorry I won't do it again,' then he does it again, again and again."

Narrating a particular incident, Hadiza, estranged wife of musician Zaki Adzay, said, "he slapped me on the face so (and said) 'get up you must abort this pregnancy today. Now that I am married to you, you want to hook me with pregnancy because I am a celebrity.' Then there was a wardrobe in our room so I put my tummy in there and then he continued beating me. He had some folic acid in his hand and said I should swallow it and abort the pregnancy. When he gave me I said he should allow me take water, thank God the door was open so I ran away."

Emmys Awards 2012 Red Carpet (Photo Gallery)

The Emmy Awards ceremony took place on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

As stars arrived on Sunday, the red carpet saw plenty of red.

In no particular order, my top 5 dresses :

Sofia vergara is a 40-year-old Modern Family actress and she wore a teal hand-beaded gown by Zuhair Murad, which featured a reverse-halter neckline and open back.

Always a sight to behold, not too comfortable with her hair style though. Hayden Panettiers is a 23-year-old actress and she wore a Marchesa gown with Harry Winston jewels, Giuseppe Zanotti heels and a Judith Leiber bag to the event.

Julianna Hough is beautiful. The 23-year-old actress wore a strapless white and acqua-green gown that was embellished with Swarovski crystal. The gown also featured velvet accents on the bust and velvet petals on the bottom and train.

Tina Fey! this is  my very best among the gowns. What do you think? The 30 Rock star looked sensational in a purple Vivienne Westwood gown as she hit the red carpet.

Jane Levy is 22.  She wore a royal Pamella Roland dress to the
ceremony. Jane completed her look with Neil Lane jewels, a Judith Leiber clutch and Jimmy Choo heel.

Movie Manners and Proper Etiquette at the Cinema

Just the basics, folks. Imagine watching a movie, and seated beside you is someone who’s texting every 10 minutes. It is the most annoying movie experience one can have.

Even if the mobile phone is silent, its intermittent flashes of light are extremely bothersome. Maybe texting once is tolerable; more than that means you’re not being considerate of others.  Manners are exactly that: basic consideration of those around you.

It’s in the movies where you see a mix of  different personalities, and you don’t even have to speak to them, not like at a party. It’s where you see how people behave, and most people act as if there is no one else in the movie theater except them.

For instance, the food people bring in.  Again, popcorn, chips and a drink are standard movie fare.  What do they have in common? None of them smells. Okay, so buttered popcorn smells, but it smells nice.

A burger loaded with onions or fried chicken or even pizza does not smell anywhere near good. It can be nauseating. So aside from cell phone etiquette inside the movie theater, please observe food choices; consider the smell as well.

Getting out of the theater is another thing altogether. Please allow the people in front of you to go ahead of you in moving out of their seats to the aisle. If there is space, you can move forward. You might ask, which theater does she go to? Believe it or not, jostling happens everywhere, even in supposedly high-end theaters.

Holding hands

About kissing and cuddling. Although I see nothing wrong with couples holding hands or having their arms around each other while watching a movie, I would advice that it be left at that. Anything beyond that makes those around you completely uncomfortable.
At a cartoon or a family movie, it is adorable to hear children’s laughter or gasps of excitement. But in a movie that is neither a cartoon nor a family movie, children have no place. I’ve seen families bring small children to action films, and more serious films where they wiggle, whine and cry.

Please don’t kick the chair in front of you. I suffer such fate each time I watch a movie. When you kick the chair in front of you, it bothers the person seated on it. I once looked back at the woman seated behind me, and she still did not get it. If someone was kicking your seat from behind, you would get annoyed, too.

Lastly, this is a true story and I am even embarrassed to write it. Do not remove your shoes in the moviehouse. How did I know someone removed his shoes close to where I was seated?  The smell.

Next time you go and enjoy a movie, kindly be considerate to those around you so that they, too, can enjoy the movie. Wait for the DVD? Well, that too, but sometimes it is more enjoyable to watch a movie on the big screen.

Beyonce Wows In Red Dress At Obama Fundraiser Event

Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z chatted with President Obama at a fundraiser in NYC last night. Beyoncé and Jay hosted the event at Jay’s 40/40 Club in support of Obama’s reelection campaign. Beyoncé chose a red dress for the occasion and said to the crowd, “I can’t tell you how proud we are to host tonight’s event with President Obama. We believe in his vision.”

The big-money event, the president’s second of the day, raised approximately $4 million and featured lavish touches like a tower of 350 champagne bottles. The first lady Michelle Obama was not in attendance.

Goldie pays a visit to Prezzo in Kenya

Singer Susan Harvey popularly known as Goldie from Big Brother StarGame is in Nairobi. After Prezzo visited Nigeria and poured out his heart for her, she has decided to return the favour.

Last Saturday, Goldie jetted into Nairobi and was received by none other than on and off boyfriend Prezzo. It seems their relationship is back on track. Her arrival was totally kept silent from the media. She was also welcomed by former housemate Millicent Mugadi.

According to a local Goldie said she would be around for a week or so adding that she will be here recording some music. She did although hint that her and Prezzo might be making music together.

Shortly after her arrival at midnight, Goldie's luggage was bundled into Prezzo's waiting car and headed to a hotel where she will be staying. The smile of Prezzo at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was so illuminating and bore tales of a man in love.

Goldie confirmed that perhaps a wedding may be expected in the near future. "There is no reason for me to rush things with my sweetheart, if it's meant to be, it will be."

From source, she is currently in Uganda from there she  will go to Tanzania, then return to Kenya
