Here is an extract from his speech:
"We must take part in the conversation and even lead the dialogue," BankyW tells the session on getting citizens engaged in reforming the continent's politics. "We must do better. When we finally turn the corner on corrupt leadership .. when we invest, rather than loot .. when we move past just having potential, to actually living that potential as citizens and as a continent, then the African renaissance will be fully realized. It is cool to be African".
"By and large, media and the arts have been just as important in redefining the continent as anything else," BankyW says, adding that the continent needs to make significant strides to improve patenting rights for artists and distribution networks. "We are far from where we started but we are not quite where we want to be but we are on the way to getting there".
"In my city Lagos, the economic transformation is evident. We are not at the finish line but there is physical proof that good governance can yield results," award-winning artist BankyW tells the panel.
