LIMITATIONS ON TV!!

As viewers watch the small screen these days, some of them are struck by the lack of limits that is shockingly obvious on TV.

They point out that television is able to enter people’s homes, into their living rooms and bedrooms, and therefore should be on its best behavior, especially because young and impressionable children can see and hear—and imitate—everything it says and shows.

Since it’s an invited or uninvited guest in people’s homes, TV should make sure that it doesn’t ruffle the sensibilities of its hosts and, thus, rudely overstays its welcome.

And yet, all too often these days, the opposite is what’s happening—TV shows and personalities are saying anything and everything that comes to mind, even if it’s disturbing or downright shocking, because they feel that they have the run of the place, and that their hosts have to take whatever they dish out, since they’ve become so popular and powerful.

Offended viewers have to reassert their right to set the rules in their homes, and TV people have to remind themselves to observe them.

Collectively, viewers should clearly draw the line between what definitely is allowed and what isn’t.

“There are limits!” they should insistently declare, and TV people have to observe those limits—or else, we should shut that offensive and intrusive TV set off.

Examples of excesses abound. Recently, a young star was interviewed on TV and she was reminded by the host of her impoverished days, when she had to buy cheap panties for only a few pesos each.

Instead of blushingly pleading for the host not to “mention her unmentionables,” the actress opted to ride on the colorful conversation to show that she was “with-it” and “game,” and even added a cheeky detail or two about the condition and color of her underwear!

As viewers at home groaned and winced, both host and guest had a field day showing how cheeky and audacious they could be.

What could the kids at home have been thinking? That it’s OK and even fun to mention private things on a public medium like TV? And, therefore, that it’s OK to do the same at home, at school, and wherever else they choose to be so forthcoming, audacious and “fun?” Oh, please.

Fact is, some other people who appear on TV say and do even worse things for many of the medium’s viewers to take and bear.

Like that infamous public figure who berates and bullies her victims and enemies in political debates in vile and vicious terms.

Or that stage mother who vilifies her foes with insults and threats that should never be  heard in public, especially by children.

Or those celebrities who hurl colorful invectives at each other on TV that result in cases being filed in court.

Why should viewers and their vulnerable children be subjected to such vitriolic excesses?

TV stations should have rules and that can swiftly be implemented to cut off such shocking language and behavior before they pollute the TV screen—and people’s homes.

TV hosts and guests should be warned that such excesses are utterly unacceptable, and that viewers’ sensibilities have to be respected at all times.

If they refuse to observe those rigorous limits, they shouldn’t be allowed access to the medium and should be limited to polluting their own space, not the TV screen.

There are limits!

GEJ ORDERED PASTOR TUNDE BAKARE TO BE ARRESTED FOR CONTROVERSIAL SERMON

Men of the State Intelligence Bureau of the Nigeria Police have extended invitation to fiery Lagos preacher, Pastor Tunde Bakare, over what police sources see as a controversial sermon against President Goodluck Jonathan.

The invitation is sequel to a sermon which he (Pastor Bakare) delivered in his church wherein he accused President Jonathan of deliberately trying to bankrupt the country.

Publicity secretary of the Save Nigeria Group, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, who confirmed the development in a chat with LEADERSHIP on telephone, however, said Bakare, the leader of the group, was aware of the summon.

Bakare, the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, in the last general election was billed to honour the invitation but had left the country on Wednesday.

“We saw an invitation by the police asking Pastor Bakare to honour an invitation regarding a sermon that he delivered sometime ago, but, as I am talking to you now, he is out of the country,” Odumakin said.

Though, it was speculated that security agents might prevent him from making the journey, which many believe was to the United States of America, he made without it hindrance. Excerpt of Pastor Bakare’s Sermon

“We have vampires whose assignment is to kill Nigeria and to make sure that Nigeria does not exist thereafter. Suddenly Nigeria that was that cheered now has clueless, shoeless people take over the administration of Nigeria.

“And the one word I have for Nigerians is, don’t despair. Jonathan is dancing to the drumbeat of destiny. His destiny is to bankrupt Nigeria. All men of goodwill must rise up to stop him. And stop him we will do. And I said stop him we will do. Don’t make mistake about what you are hearing from me today, it is clear in my heart beyond any iota of doubt that Jonathan’s destiny is to bankrupt Nigeria, balkanize Nigeria.

And there are forces behind him totally committed and determined to do so. Oil vultures with petrol dollars and all kinds of political “tinkers” not thinkers are tinkering with the destiny of our nation with their palace prophets telling them peace when there is no peace.

I want to tell you that it does not matter what it takes, we will stop you. We will stop you dead in your tracks. You will not accomplish your assignment. You will not finish your assignment. Nigeria will vomit you in the name of Jesus Christ.

Turn your Bible with me to the Book of Chronicles. Tell it on the mountain top that this man is dancing the drumbeat of destiny.

His destiny is to bankrupt this nation and balkanize it and he has the full support of his corporate cowboys and oil vultures as well as their palace prophets who are telling them peace when there is no peace because I don’t understand how a nation will be going through calamity upon calamity and those who should be concerned will only be prancing around. I don’t understand it. I don’t understand how you can serve your nation and serve bomb blast inside a church in Jos for breakfast.

And before they could recover from that anguish you serve them air crash for lunch. And before they could gain their moment of sanity, you serve them with petro dollar bribe and now you vaunt about it telling us nothing can happen because you are in charge, the land will vomit you as the Lord lives in the name of Jesus Christ and every collaborator will not go unpunished.

Your year of punishment has come. Tell it on the mountain top that there are still men of goodwill who will stop you dead in your tracks.

I am not talking about deluded ambitious politicians who now think of 2015 when the nation is in a mess in 2012. We can do all the tinkering, if we don’t rise up now there will not be 2015.”

HERMES VIBRATOR

It's no longer often that you see a Hermes vibrato birkin for sale at Hermes. In fact, from what I was told, they have since stopped production of the vibrato leather birkins (and kellys) because of the more laborious and time consuming process-- most vibrato birkins today are especially ordered and take so long to be completed-- if these orders can be fulfilled at all :(
Some people have mistaken vibrato for fabric. Vibrato is not a fabric of some sort. It is in fact, stacked leather-- which is why the process to make it is more laborious. Strips of leather are stacked together painstakingly to create that look-- think of it as a cross- section of the stacked leathers. There you have it :)

Vibrato birkins are normally paired with box leather such as this one:

And then you have the vibrato birkin body paired with a togo leather flap and handles. It's not often you see this pairing too-- it is in fact, very rare.

I feel that vibrato leather birkins have been so under- appreciated in the past, but if you are looking for that extra special something that perhaps other Hermes bag- loving women don't always have, go for a vibrato leather bag. It's not as difficult to get exotic leather birkins as it is a vibrato birkin these days (yep, vibrato's harder to get!), plus the price difference of course is staggering-- the exotic leather one being way more expensive!

JOHNNY DEPP AND VANESSA PARADIS SPLITS

Johnny Depp and his longtime French girlfriend Vanessa Paradis have agreed to separate “amicably,” a publicist for the Hollywood “A” lister said Tuesday.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star and Gallic singer and actress have been together for 14 years, and rumors of trouble have been circulating for some time, leading to Paradis denying a split in January.

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have amicably separated. Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children,” a Depp publicist told celebrity TV show Entertainment Yesterday.

The publicist, Robin Baum, confirmed the statement to AFP.

The couple, who divide their time between France and the United States, have two children aged nine and 13 but have never married.

In January, Paradis flatly denied a split, telling French Canal+ television station: “The rumor is false, of course it is false .. It’s a rumor that could really damage my family,” she added.

MANETA AND ROKI DISQUALIFIED FROM BBA STARGAME

                                    Maneta                                                                   Roki

Yesterday, Tuesday 19th June 2012, Big Brother StarGame Upville Zimbabwean housemates , Maneta (a 21 year old student) and Roki (a 27 year old musician) were disqualified from the hit reality TV show after breaking the Big Brother StarGame rule which doesn’t condone any two housemates engaging in a violent act.

The two housemates were bickering all day and despite Big Brother intervening and advising them directly that they needed to amend their behavior immediately, in line with the clearly stated house rules forbidding violence and provocation, the housemates chose to disregard the instruction and their bickering continued and escalated into violence.

This was exactly the same rule that Sierra Leone housemate Zainab and Ghanaian housemate DKB broke that unfortunately got them disqualified from the show after an argument between the two upville housemates turned violent. According to the rules of the show, any housemate committing any act of physical violence is subject to immediate expulsion from the series. This season saw the “anti-violence” rule expanded to include any housemate whose provocative behavior contributed substantially to creating a hostile and aggressive environment in which violence is the result.

Just like DKB and Zainab, Roki and Maneta will be provided with psychological and medical treatment and counseling to assist them with conflict and anger management.

ISABELLA AYUK MBGN 2012 WILL NOT BE REPRESENTING NIGERIA AT THE MISS WORLD COMPETITION

According to Silverbird Group’s Vice President Guy Murray Bruce, Isabella Ayuk MBGN 2012 winner will not be representing Nigeria at the Miss World 2012 competition for personal reasons. So as a result of this development the  1st runner up MBGN 2012 Damiete Charles Granville automatically qualifies to act in her place which explains the reason her picture appears  there as Nigeria's representative if you visit Miss World Website.

I also heard the 'personal reasons' Mr Bruce was referring to has to do with the beauty queen falsifying her real age which makes me wonders, isn't age authenticity supposed to have be verified before any other process so why now?!!

And for the record, she has not been dethroned, she is not just representing us at the Miss World pageant in August. ;)

10 HOLLYWOOD EVER YOUNG HUNKS

In Hollywood,  a leading star’s looks can serve as his absolute best friend. It’s great to be charming, actually be talented and so forth, but its the looks that gets these actors/musicians on everyone’s radar. So shallow we know, but that’s how it goes in Tinsel town! The men on this list take it a step further because not only are they handsome, but they never age! Maybe it’s a little Botox, maybe not, but these men get better and better with time (just like fine wine). Here goes…

Denzel Washington, 57:

Seriously, Denzel has not changed one bit in about 30 years! Still the object of all the ladies eyes

Leon, 50:

It’s actually quite stunning how handsome Leon has been and will always be at whatever age. I would love to know his beauty secrets!

LL Cool J, 44:

Yes LL is 44 years old and ladies still love him!

Tom Cruise, 49:

Tom Cruise knew exactly what to do to keep him young: Marry Katie Holmes!

Brad Pitt, 48:

Brad Pitt has literally looked the same since the late 80′s and with a family on his arm, he only looks better!

Nas, 38:

Nas is not only one of the best rappers alive, he happens to be the most handsome too, appealing to generations of women in Hip-Hop.

Idris Elba, 39:

Doesn’t matter how good or bad the movie is, Idris Elba’s gorgeousness will be forever and always pull in the female crowd.

Jaime Foxx, 47:

Can you believe Jaime Foxx is 44? Even with this weird beard he’s currently sporting, the funny guy doesn’t look a day over 28!

Lenny Kravitz, 48:

The poster-child of multi-racial identity in Rock ‘n’ Roll, Lenny Kravitz has had women swooning for him ever since his dread lock days.

Blair Underwood, 47:

From movies, to Sex and The City and now to Broadway (A Streetcar Named Desire), Blair Underwood still sizzles.

DKB APOLOGISES TO AFRICA

The letter you are about to read below was sent in by DKB to Big Borther Africa, In the letter he  apologised to Africa for his inexcusable behavior towards Zainab and to his beloved country Ghana.

"Lovely people of Africa, there are many things I wish I could do to revert this unfortunate incident but as we all know, one cannot go back in time.

I had the opportunity of a lifetime to entertain Africa on the most coveted platform but I messed it up due to my act of indiscipline.

I hereby render my deepest heartfelt apology to all the people of Africa, to the people of my motherland Ghana, to the entire Big Brother Africa team, my cherished housemates and most importantly to Zainab and her family.

I am fully and solely responsible for my actions and I under no circumstance justify hitting a woman no matter the level of provocation.

To all my dedicated viewers, fans and critics, I say thank you for all the support. I am truly sorry for letting you down and I promise that I would never repeat such unscrupulous behavior.

This is my sincere apology and I hope it is accepted".

MILEY CYRUS IS OFFICIALLY ENGAGED TO LIAM HEMSWORTH

Australian “Hunger Games” actor Liam Hemsworth has proposed to “Hannah Montana” girlfriend Miley Cyrus, with the pair tweeting their engagement on Thursday.

“Thank you for all the support. We are both very happy!” said the Melbourne-born Hemsworth, who met the teen star in 2009 while filming “The Last Song” after relocating to the United States to pursue his career.

Cyrus, 19, tweeted: “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with @LiamHemsworth!!!”

I feel like all my dreams are coming true. Life is beautiful.”
Hemsworth, 22, said the engagement ring was “hand-cut around 1880 or 1890 and it’s unique and in its original form”.

“It’s a contemporary design based on vintage aesthetics. The light flashes and sparkles no matter where she moves her hand,” he said.

Cyrus made her name as a teen idol in the “Hannah Montana” TV series but moved to shake-off her squeaky-clean image with raunchy music videos after she quit the show.

Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who also starred in “Hannah Montana”, said he was over the moon.

“All I ever hoped for as a Daddy was to see my kids reach their dreams. To find happiness… peace of mind… and someday know… true love,” the “Achy Breaky Heart” crooner said.

Fellow teen idol Demi Lovato, who made her name in “Camp Rock”, added her congratulations, tweeting:

“Congrats and happiness to you both. Love you.”

FIRST LADY, PATIENCE DAME JONATHAN DENIES DANA PLANE CRASH ALLEGAIONS

The First Lady of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan came under criticism yesterday as news of the alleged closure of the nation’s airspace for a Presidential jet conveying her to Lagos on Sunday went viral on BlackBerry Messenger and online social networks.

The closure was said to have prevented the pilot of the distressed Dana Air’s plane from making an emergency landing at the airport. Reports circulated claimed that although the Dana plane had an engine failure, the distressed aircraft could have made it to the airport if it was not delayed by the VIP movement.

However, in response to this, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Joe Obi, said the airspace was never closed for the First Lady on Sunday. He noted that the First Lady arrived in Lagos at about 4.45pm on Saturday, 2nd June, 2012 and only departed for Abuja on Monday, the 4th of June, 2012 at 1.30pm, whereas the ill-fated Dana flight 0992 departed Abuja on Sunday, 3rd of June, 2012 at 2.54pm and its last contact with the Lagos Control Tower was at 3.42pm as has already been announced.

The rumours prompted a response from the Office of the First Lady:

I am responding to the rumor mongers because of the involvement of the script writers of those that wish to heat up the polity of Nigeria at every event or given opportunity. Like they have always done, using every opportunity to make Nigeria ungovernable. Why would a group of people in different disguises want to play politics with this sad event just to get back to political rivals or superiors?

This morning, reports from one Ade Atobatele….Information Technology and Services has filtered the air. Don’t know which of the firms that is, claimed that the Dana Airline misfortune was caused by the closure of airspace for the first lady’s aircraft. He was quoted as saying he was informed by a pilot of a private Jet that also had to hover in the air for 2 hours 15mins before the airspace opened for landing. He has conned his story that the social, electronic and print media has started reporting it without verifying his source.

Let Ade Atobatele (if he does exist) and Nigerians know that the Nigerian Air space can only be closed for 10 minutes only when an Aircraft conveying the President approaches an airport and 10 minutes after landing. A total accumulation of 20 minutes by regulations. And let Ade and Nigerians also note that the Air space can never be closed for an aircraft conveying the first lady or any other individual in Nigeria. Let Nigerians know that regulations gives a code red preference to any aircraft on “May Day” (in danger) distress against any other aircraft even if it’s presidential. A presidential jet will be asked to divert towards a military airbase in case of a conflict in interest of landing. As we are aware, flight 0992 had called for MAY DAY 11mins before its ETA (estimated time of arrival) at 11 mins, the aircraft had prepared for landing. No aircraft is allowed to prepare for landing in an airspace that is closed. 20mins to landing, an aircraft as large as the boeing MD-83 can only commence descend from its cruise altitude.

Where then is the logic in Ade’s story?

Let Ade also take note that the traffic control unit at the airport has confirmed that the air space was actually closed for 15mins for the Dana Air flight 0992 to perform an emergency landing before the unfortunate incidence.

Please I admonish all readers to disregard the allegation against the office and person of the First lady in their attempt to incite Nigerians.
While we all pray that the Good Lord grants Nigerians and most especially the families of those that lost their lives to the sad incident the fortitude to bear the loss.

The Allegations:

“Is there any way of getting confirmation about news I’m just getting that the Dana plane was distressed for a while but could not make an emergency landing because the airspace was closed for 2 hours for – the Presidential Jet carrying Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan.
Private jet owners who had to hover in the air same time leaked this. This was apparently the reason local news didn’t report the crash for so long till CNN and foreign news stations started reporting it.
Local news was ‘blacked out’ trying to kill the story of the airspace being closed while a distressed plane couldn’t land. It would be shocking if so.
Though there was engine failure there was still time for the plane to have landed apparently. You do know anyway that the airspace is closed for up to 2hours each time the Presidential Jet needs to go into the air? 2 hours for a 15minute take off or landing! And this jet is used by President, VP, President’s wife and if I recall David Mark. It’s almost a daily occurrence I’ve been told by airline staff when it caught me out on a trip.”

What do you think about the allegations and the First Lady’s response?

Please share your thought.
