FORBES LIST OF YOUNG MILLIONAIRES; SONGSTRESS DOMINATES

Female singers dominated the top of Forbes’ list of the highest-paid celebrities under the age of 30, released Thursday, starting with country pop sensation Taylor Swift

The business magazine said the 22-year-old Swift earned $57 million in the 12 months to May, a period that included the North American and Australasian legs of her 111-concert “Speak Now” tour.

Forbes said each Swift concert raked in an average of $1 million, with multi-platinum album sales and product endorsements topping up her wealth. She is expected to release a new album in October.

Teen idol Justin Bieber, 18, the only male in the top five, placed second at $55 million, followed by Rihanna ($53 million), Lady Gaga ($52 million) and Katy Perry ($45 million).

Last year, Lady Gaga topped the list at $90 million. Forbes said her slump is likely due to the fact that she did not tour during its May-to-May review period.

“Expect the pop princess to earn more next year,” it said.

Forbes said it considered “album and concert sales, movie paydays, profit participation, endorsements and advertising work,” and interviewed showbiz insiders such as managers and agents, in coming up with its under-30 list.

It did not deduct agent fees typically double-digit – or what it called “expenses related to being a celebrity.”

NEGATIVE IMPACT OF SOCIAL NETWORKS

We use social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and blogs to virtually “connect” with people, updating each other with  regular status reports and giving (and receiving) feedback  about them.    Social networking sites readily provide us with what we personally, professionally and socially need and everything for free.

Negative impact

However, we should also be aware of the  negative impact  of social networking in our life. Staying on those sites takes so much of your time, especially if you have no self-discipline. And notice how  painful comments affect our  thoughts and actions.

Several articles and studies worldwide have shown how social networking sites like Facebook can create a negative  perception of one’s body and weight when comparing one’s photos with the photos of friends.  Facebook users usually post  photos of themselves at their best body shape and clothes. People with self-esteem and body image issues can become easily affected by these hard-to-reach images, just like when seeing photos of models and celebrities in television, magazines and newspapers. According to mental health specialists, people get more affected by Facebook photos of others because these are real, un-Photoshopped photos of people they know, like family members and friends.

Statistics

Results of an online survey for 600 Facebook users age 16-40 conducted by the researchers of Center for Eating Disorders show that:
  • 51 percent became more conscious of their body and weight after looking at photos of themselves;
  • 44 percent wish they had the same body or weight as a friend when checking Facebook photos;
  • 37 percent feel that they need to alter some parts of their body when they compare their bodies to their friends’;
  • 32 percent feel sad when comparing their own Facebook photos to their friends’ photos;
  • 31 percent have prevented themselves from eating specific food items, food groups or entire categories of food in an attempt to control their weight;
  • 17 percent have engaged in binge eating;
  • 12 percent have or have had an eating disorder (such as anorexia or bulimia)
  • 7 percent have tried purging (such as vomiting in bulimia);
  • but only 25 percent are happy with their present weight.
Eighty percent of the respondents visit Facebook once a day and more than half of them log on numerous times a day.  This implies that constant Facebook use may affect one’s body image, and can lead to weight obsession and preoccupation, unhealthy dieting practices and eating disorders as results of social comparison among Facebook peers.

Both young and old can be negatively affected by constant Facebook visits.  In fact, a study conducted this year shows that the more frequent an adolescent girl (average age: 14.8) spends on Facebook, the more chances of developing various eating disorders and negative body image.

How to use Facebook to avoid body image and self-esteem issues:
  • If you easily get affected by Facebook photos of your friends as they show their best life and body shapes,  take a break  and observe how it shows in your thoughts and actions.  Then make time and effort to resolve your body and weight issues  by talking to  a counselor,  friends, loved ones or someone you find comfortable sharing your concerns with.
  • Instead of social networking, engage  in  activities that will improve your body image, like exercises that can make you feel good about yourself (dancing, yoga, running) and reading self-help books that will modify your thinking.
  • Always put in mind that your own thoughts and feelings are important to your overall health. Knowing this,  you will not allow updates and photos of others to cause you more stress and negative emotions.
  • Learn to manage your time  when using Facebook. Set a schedule and just give yourself a few minutes to update your status and/or check updates you find meaningful and important to you.
  • Avoid focusing too much on physical appearance and interactions that include weight obsession, too much dieting and over-exercising. Shift your attention to positive feelings and thoughts. Say,  “Wow, you look so happy and fulfilled spending your weekend with your family.  You inspire me!” instead of,  “You look so thin and sexy in your outfit!”
  • Instead of allowing yourself to feel insecure about others’ looks and accomplishments, restructure your thoughts.  Believe  that you can always be at your best without comparing yourself to others. Better yet, be an inspiration to others.
  • Parents, be   involved in your children’s online activities.

#STARGAME UPDATE: MALONZA AND JUNIA EVICTED FROM BBA

 Junia and Malonza became the latest Housemates to bid farewell to the Big Brother House.

While the Eviction gods smiled upon Lady May, Goldie, Prezzo and Kyle unfortunately for the StarGame sweethearts tonight was the end of the road of their journey inside of the Big Brother House.

After StarGame presenter IK announced Malonza as the third Housemate to be evicted from Upville, Junia broke down as her man headed out of the House, little did she know that just moments later she too would be headed for Homeville. After IK revealed that she was leaving, she let out a sigh of relief and whispered. “At least I am leaving with him.

On the Live Show Eviction stage Malonza shared that their relationship was the one thing that brought him joy inside of the Big Brother House. “I am happy, because of Junia,” he said fondly.

It is clear that these two have genuine feelings for one another and now they finally have a chance to see if their love is more than an illusion as Malonza’s brother Alex claimed, for both their sakes we hope that Alex is wrong.

PASTOR CONNIE PASSED ON

She died in the lord and most importantly among the people who truly loved her there is no better way to passed on. She didn't go through unnecessary  pain before her demise and that am grateful for, even though I still finds it very difficult to accept that she has left us to that pure golden city to rest with the lord most high.

She was a great woman, a woman who lived all her life for Christ and her husband's vision, a genuine mother to the whole assembly, She was my source of inspirations, she touched my life in ways that I can't even express with words.

Let me not get too emotional!! straight to the report.

Pastor Connie is a Wife, Mother and a Sister to Pastor Anselm Madubuko the General Overseer of Revival Assembly Ministries International. She sleeps in the  on Friday at the age of 54. And quoting from Apostle "28 years of marriage have never seen connie more spiritual in the past three months"

Which makes me wonders where people are getting all  these articles from, here is what happened. She got back home from fellowship that day and requested a prayer session with one of the pastors around the house, after the prayer session she asked the  pastor to pour her water as she feels hot and after the water incident she asked the pastor to go call Sandra (her Daughter ) to pray for her unfortunately before Sandra could get to her room she already slum on the bed so even while they rushed her to the hospital she had that joyful and peaceful express on (like she always does) before she sleeps finally in the lord.

May her gentle soul rest in the overwhelming peace of the lord.

SERENA WILLIAMS WINS 5TH WIMBLEDON TITLE

For Serena Williams, the low point came in early 2011, when she spent hours laying around her home, overwhelmed by a depressing series of health scares that sent her to the hospital repeatedly and kept her away from tennis for 10 months.

The high point came Saturday on Centre Court at Wimbledon, when Williams dropped down to the grass, hands covering her face. She was all the way back, a Grand Slam champion yet again.

Her serve as good as there is, her grit as good as ever, Williams was dominant at the start and finish, beating Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 to win a fifth championship at the All England Club and 14th major title overall, ending a two-year drought.

“I just remember, I was on the couch and I didn’t leave the whole day, for two days. I was just over it. I was praying, like, ‘I can’t take any more. I’ve endured enough. Let me be able to get through this,’” recalled Williams, a former No. 1 whose ranking slid to 175th after a fourth-round loss at the All England Club last year, her second tournament back.

“Coming here and winning today is amazing,” she said. “It’s been an unbelievable journey for me.”

Certainly has ;)

That’s why tears flowed during the on-court trophy ceremony. And why Williams squeezed tight during post-victory hugs with her parents and older sister Venus, who has five Wimbledon titles of her own meaning that one pair of siblings who learned to play tennis on public courts in Compton, California, now accounts for 10 of the past 13 trophies.

A few days after winning Wimbledon for the fourth time in 2010, Serena Williams cut both feet on broken glass while leaving a restaurant in Germany. She needed two operations on her right foot. Then she got blood clots in her lungs, for which she needed to inject herself with a blood thinner. Those shots led to a pool of blood gathering under her stomach’s skin, requiring another procedure.

“That made her realize where her life was, really, and where she really belonged and that she really loved the game,” said Williams’ mother, Oracene Price. “You never appreciate anything until you almost lose it.”

Against Radwanska, who was trying to be the first Polish Grand Slam singles champion, Williams was streaky at times, but also superb. She won the first five games and the last five. She compiled a 58-13 landslide of winners. She swatted 17 aces, including four in one marvelous game to pull even at 2-all in the third set. That was part of a momentum-swinging run when Williams claimed 15 of 18 points, and that quartet of aces raised her total for the fortnight to a tournament-record 102, surpassing her own mark of 89 in 2010; it’s also more than the top number for any man this year at Wimbledon.

“So many aces,” said Radwanska, whose two-week total was 16, “and I couldn’t do much about it.”

There had been a moment, ever so brief, when it appeared Williams might let Saturday’s match slip away. After she breezed through the first set on a day when the wind whipped and the temperature cooled, rain arrived, causing a delay of about 20 minutes between sets.

Radwanska, who’s been fighting a respiratory illness and blew her nose at a changeover, quickly fell behind 3-1 in the second set. Right there is where she made a stand.

Williams was playing in her 18th major final; Radwanska in her first. Actually, she’d never won a match beyond the fourth round at a Grand Slam tournament until this week. So she acknowledged being “a little bit nervous in the beginning.”

But the interruption let her “cool down a little bit,” explained Radwanska, who would have risen to No. 1 in the rankings by beating Williams but instead will be No. 2, behind Victoria Azarenka.

“When I was going on the court the second time, I just felt like a normal match,” Radwanska said. “Didn’t seem like a final anymore, so there was not that much pressure.”

Radwanska played her usual steady game, and Williams began making more and more errors. A string of mistakes swinging volley into the net, double-fault, backhand long, backhand into the net  let Radwanska break to even the match at one set apiece. What appeared to be a rather drab final, bereft of any drama, suddenly became interesting.

“She got a little nervous out there, in my opinion. In the second set, I think she might have thought, ‘Well, I got this here,’” said Williams’ father, Richard.

He also suspected his daughter might have been feeling a twinge of self-doubt connected to her quick exit in late May at the French Open against a woman ranked 111th, Williams’ only first-round loss in 48 career major tournaments.

Williams’ explanation for her dip against Radwanska?

“I just got too anxious,” she said, “and I shouldn’t have been so anxious.”
Probably not.

Making her Paris performance really seem like an aberration, Williams regained control down the stretch. She won a 16-stroke point with a forehand putaway to get to break point, then went up 3-2 by smacking a big return that left Radwanska flailing at a running backhand.

If Williams is mainly known for her powerful serves and groundstrokes she produced 23 baseline winners to her opponent’s five  she also showed off a deft touch, the sort of thing Radwanska specializes in. Ahead 4-2, Williams earned a second break with a well-disguised forehand drop shot, then raised both arms aloft.

“After that, it was: ‘I can definitely do this,’” Williams said.

While today’s rankings will have her listed at No. 4, there’s no doubt who is at the top of the game right now. Seeded sixth at the All England Club, she beat the women who were No. 2 (Azarenka), No. 3 (Radwanska) and No. 4 (defending champion Petra Kvitova).

At age 30, Williams is the oldest women’s singles champion at any major tournament since Martina Navratilova was 33 when she won Wimbledon in 1990.

And Williams sees no end in sight.

Asked Saturday evening what more she could possibly want, she replied: “Are you kidding? The U.S. Open. The Australian Open. The French Open. Wimbledon, 2013.”

Seconds later, she declared: “I have never felt better.”

On that same day she teamed up with her sister Venus to win a fifth Wimbledon women’s doubles title

They defeated Czech sixth seeds Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka 7-5, 6-4 for their 13 Grand Slam doubles triumph.

The sisters now have five Wimbledon doubles titles, four Australian Open, two US Open and two French Open doubles triumphs.

“It was a very long day. I was happy to win the singles and I think it may have been a big letdown if I had lost the doubles,” said Serena.

Venus added: “I felt like I played a match already by watching Serena from the box earlier today. It’s been a great day for all of us.

“If anyone knows what it’s like to win singles and doubles in the same day, then it’s me. It’s an amazing feeling. Tomorrow she’ll wake up in bed and think ‘Oh my god, I’m the Wimbledon champion’.”

TOM CRUISE AND KATIE HOLMES DIVORCES

“Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children,” Amanda Lundberg, Cruise’s representative, told AFP. “Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”

“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” said Jonathan Wolfe, the attorney representing Holmes. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

Cruise, who turns 50 on Tuesday, wed Holmes, 33, in a storybook Italian castle in November 2006 after declaring his love for the former “Dawson’s Creek” star live on “Oprah” famously hopping on a couch in the studio.

It was Holmes’ first marriage and Cruise’s third. They have a 6-year-old daughter, Suri.
The “TomKat” split comes just 10 days after the “amicable” parting of US actor Johnny Depp and French singer/actress Vanessa Paradis, and will doubtless lead to renewed chatter about the pressures on Hollywood couples.

Holmes has admitted to having had a teenage crush on Cruise, even saying she had put up a poster of the “Top Gun” star in her bedroom.

After a whirlwind courtship that culminated in a proposal under the Eiffel Tower in June 2005, what followed resembled a fairytale at first.

Fireworks lit up the night sky above the 15th-century Odescalchi castle near Rome when Cruise and Holmes tied the knot on Nov. 18, 2006.

Italian media reported that American Scientology leader David Miscavige officiated at the event, arguably the most high-profile Scientology wedding to date, in a ceremony that lasted no more than 15 minutes.

Reports at the time said that under the prenuptial agreement, Holmes who converted to Scientology—would receive $3 million for every year of the marriage plus ownership of a California mansion if they split.

But it remains to be seen how the stylish, dark-haired duo often snapped at glittery events alongside soccer star David Beckham and his wife Victoria will handle the custody of their daughter, who has been called one of Hollywood’s most fashionable youngsters.
According to the website TMZ.com, Holmes wants sole custody.

Citing unnamed sources, the website claims Holmes filed for divorce mainly over Cruise’s ties to Scientology, “fearing that Tom would drag Suri deep into the church.”

“According to sources, the couple had been arguing over Suri that she’s now of the age where Scientology becomes a significant part of her life,” it said.

Tabloids, shadowing the couple since the get-go, have speculated for some time that the relationship was on the rocks after the pair was not seen together for months. Cruise has also won two lawsuits alleging he is gay.

In an interview with Playboy magazine in May, Cruise said he would be spending his birthday shooting a film in Iceland without his significant other.

“My family, my wife, they understand. It’s who I am,” he said.

Addressing rumors about his private life, he added: “You just have to keep going and remember that. The other stuff? I hear it, I read it, I get it. But life is not a matter of trying to prove anything to anybody.”

Cruise, still one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars as shown by recent box office smash “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol,” was married to Australian actress Nicole Kidman from 1990 to 2001. The couple had two adopted children, 19-year-old Isabella and 17-year-old Connor.

He was also married to American actress Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990 and had a three-year relationship with Spanish star Penelope Cruz after splitting up with Kidman. AFP

SINGER RIHANNA LOSES GRANDMOTHER TO CANCER

Rihanna's grandmother has died after losing her battle with cancer. The devastated R&B star, who delayed a recent trip to Europe to spend time with her family and visit sick Clara 'Dolly' Braithwaite in hospital in New York, appears to have addressed breaking reports from Barbados, which suggest her grandmother has died, via Twitter.com.

As fans turned on the 'You Da One' singer following a shambolic performance at a Swedish music festival on Saturday (30Jun12), Rihanna had her late grandma on her mind, tweeting, "Goodbye grangranDolly get your beauty rest until I see you..." and then adding minutes later, "grangranDolly that is all."

And her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown's manager/mum Joyce Hawkins felt the singer's pain, offering her words of condolence after hearing the awful news.

Hawkins tweeted, "Angel May God Be With You And Your Family In Your Time Of
Sorrow. Love You Angel." The note prompted Rihanna to reply, "mombreezy thank you! Love u mama."

She paid tribute to her father on Twitter before heading off to see her grandmother in hospital so it was certainly a family-focussed day for Rihanna.

The Talk That Talk singer was seen heading to visit her relative Clara 'Dolly' Brathwaite in New York.  Rihanna has been making regular visits to her grandmother since the elderly lady was diagnosed with cancer.

The singer spent Father's Day (17  June 12) in hospital visiting her sick grandmother, posting playful photos of herself with Braithwaite on Twitter.com and writing, "My heart smiled and cried all at once."
